In 2018 Michigan became the first midwestern state to allow cannabis consumption, yes!! So, we at High Level Health saw an opportunity to bring the Great Lake State the highest quality cannabis they so deserve. When we opened our dispensary doors to the Vassar, Omer, East Tawas, and now the Bay City communities, we began to get the question, “where can I smoke my marijuana in Michigan?” Even though cannabis is now legal for medical and recreational consumption in Michigan it is still very illegal to smoke a joint in the streets, a vehicle, or any public place within your favorite city. It’s not only smoking flower that is illegal either, it’s all forms of cannabis that are banned for public consumption so that means edibles, vapes, and tinctures, although discrete, are not allowed by Michigan law in a public setting.
So Where Can You Consume Cannabis In Public?
Now that you’ve got some award-winning, premium cannabis from your local dispensary the big question is where can you smoke it? Your home or a family or friend’s residence, with their permission, is the best option. Can you smoke in a rental property? The answer is yes but. Landlords can decide if they want to prohibit their tenants from smoking marijuana in their property but not prohibit non-smokable forms of marijuana, so edibles, tinctures, etc. would still be fair game even if smoking in the home is not allowed.
Tours, Experiences, And Cannabis Friendly Hotels
With endless opportunities for elevated experiences, there are great places to stay with cannabis-friendly hotels that can be found here, courtesy of the fine folks at Green Tripz. If you are up for a tour with a cannabis twist, check out these experiences for a good time. At the time this article was written cannabis cafes or lounges, which will provide consumers a safe place to partake, are not open for business but could be any day and will require a special Designated Consumption Establishment license to operate. So, to ensure you are following the Michigan State cannabis laws, always check to see if the event or space you are in is adhering to these requirements.
What if you are caught consuming cannabis in public?
According to Michigan law an individual 21 years and older, is currently subject to a $100 fine if you are caught smoking or consuming marijuana in a public setting, different and more strict laws apply to those under the age limit. Laws do change so please do your own research on any and all of these topics for the latest safety requirements.
Can You Grow And Possess Marijuana In Your Home?
The answer is yes but, as always, right? Yes, you can grow and cultivate up to 12 cannabis plants in your home residence for personal use and the plants cannot be visible from a public place, like not even visible from a plane or binoculars. In addition to the visibility requirements, your plants always have to be in an enclosed area and locked up. Currently, Michigan law allows individuals 21 years or older, who meet all requirements, to possess up to 10 ounces in their home residence and two and a half ounces of cannabis while outside of their home.
