What is the Difference Between THC, Cannabis, CBD, and Marijuana Oil?
THC oil, cannabis oil, CBD oil, marijuana oil – all come from cannabis. What are the differences between these substances? It simpler than you may think. High Level Health can give you the right answers.
Differences Between THC Oil and CBD?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are both cannabinoids found in cannabis resin. Although they are molecularly similar, THC and CBD have vastly different effects within the human body.
- THC oil binds with neurotransmitters in the brain and central nervous system to create the psychoactive effects famously associated with smoking marijuana.
- CBD is not psychoactive and actually works to mitigate some of the side effects of THC. CBD can also be found in hemp plants, which have a high concentration of CBD with little to no THC.
This is why most marijuana products we carry list THC and CBD as a percentage.
- Users who want to experience more pain relief and a stronger euphoric experience may prefer a higher THC content.
- Users who experience paranoia or anxiety when using marijuana would be advised to lean towards a strain with a higher CBD content.
THC Oil
THC oil, sometimes called cannabis oil or marijuana oil, is created by using solvents to separate THC and CBD from mature cannabis plants. The solvent is then safely purged, leaving pure cannabinoids behind. The oil is usually a light, golden color and contains the strong, familiar aroma one associates with marijuana resin.
The oil can be vaped for immediate relief of pain, nausea or any of the dozens of symptoms alleviated by cannabis. Vaping makes dosing more reliable than smoking the marijuana plant without the carbon byproducts created by smoking.
THC oil can also be ingested orally or applied topically in a salve or lotion. THC oil effects vary according to which method of consumption is used.
CBD oil
CBD oil, also known as hemp oil, is derived from hemp plants and/or seeds. The process for extracting CBD can be similar to the process of making marijuana oil, and the result is dark brown oil with a pleasant, fruity aroma.
The obvious difference between THC oil and CBD oil is that CBD oil is not psychoactive, but very useful in alleviating anxiety, pain and inflammation. Studies are finding new medicinal uses for CBD oil every day. The oil can also be used to reduce the intensity of THC oil effects for recreational or medical users.
